We present updated calculations of the heating expected for the NuMI
primary beam profile monitor chambers. The profile monitors are
beam-intercepting 5 um Ti foils which are segmented in order to obtain
X and Y profiles of the proton beam. The foils are heated by energy
loss of the beam, and are able to dissipate heat primarily by blackbody
radiation to the walls of the vacuum chamber. This updated note
recalculates the temperature rise in the foils using the formulae for
restricted energy loss in the thin foils. Additionally, we have used the
thermal model to estimate elongation which can lead to sag of the device,
and for the first time we have estimated the dynamic stress in the
material which arises from the thermal shock.
